Plan Ahead Youth Program
Plan Ahead Youth Program aims to promote academic achievement and success by increasing the high school graduation rate among Latino and Cambodian youth. This program was created in response to the low number literacy rates and low number of high school graduates among the community that we serve. The Plan Ahead Youth Program is essential for low-income youth who come from families that speak English as a second language, lack of academic assistance at home, or youth who want to have a safe and nourishing social environment. The Plan Ahead Youth Program was established in the 1990s after families that immigrated in large numbers to Santa Ana, realized that children of Cambodian refugees struggled silently with their school work. Many of whom come from families where their parents are unable to read or write in English. The program began to grow in numbers; this allowed for students to partake in activities such as college tours, leadership trainings, and learn new extracurricular activities.
